End of Year Ladies Event. What Will You Give Him?
Saturday 22 November, 7-9pm at DBC.
All ladies (friends very welcome) are warmly invited to join together to take some time out for fun and worship at at the start of this busy season.
Bring along an “as new” item that’s sitting around at home for our regifting table.
Speak to Barbara, Glenys, Beth or Donna for any questions. See you there!
After several years of supporting us, we are ready to move on to our next stage of leadership here at DBC, so Trevor and Helen Geddes will no longer be spending a week each month with us in 2026. Their November trip will be the last official preaching visit. Of course, they will always remain very welcome visitors.
To acknowledge the journey they have been on with us, on their last Sunday, 23 November, we will be having a celebratory combined service with both Glenroy and Darfield congregations meeting together at Darfield.
This will be followed by a bountiful shared feast after the service. Let’s make this a joyful and hope-filled occasion to remember.
On Sunday 30th November there is a Thanksgiving Service at Te Waiora at 2pm. Please RSVP to samantha@brl.org.nz - so they can provide the right amount of refreshments.
Also note that Baptist Resources Ltd in partnership with the Upper South Baptist Association are inviting expressions of interest to help form a small intentional resident community at Te Waiora Retreat Centre with connected responsibilites to Glenroy Lodge. (Deadline 5th Dec)
This is a unique opportunity to live and serve within a rhythm of community life that nurtures rest, hospitality, healing, and connection, both spiritual and practical. Over recent months, a working group has engaged in a thoughtful process of prayer, discussion, and discernment about the future of Te Waiora and Glenroy for the Upper South Baptist Association (USBA). Through listening to one another, to local voices, and to God’s leading, the group has identified a shared vision for a resident community that will nurture the spiritual life and long-term sustainability of both places.
If you are interested in this opportunity or know someone who might be, there are more details here: Expressions of Interest
DBC has a quarterly members meeting planned for Wednesday 12th November. Key topics being discussed are:

Pastoral Leadership Team update
National Hui report from Nakeisha

We’ve got a men’s discipleship group that meets once a month — nothing fancy, just a solid bunch of blokes hungry to follow Jesus more closely and become the kind of men God can use.
You're welcome to join us. No need to commit to anything — just come along, have a coffee, hear what we’re about, and see if it’s for you. Get in touch with Kieron if you want to find out more.

What happens at a regency ball? Have a look at the mini series Pride and Prejudice (BBC version) to see the type of music and dancing we will have, here's an example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgXYj_YqVvM. There will be musicians and a caller who will teach us and guide us through the dances - just like what happens at a barn dance. We do not need to have any prior dance experience or knowledge as the caller tells us what to do as we go. Key aspects of a Regency ball are: Social Significance, Attire, Dancing, Etiquette, Supper.
Please bring a plate for the supper, regency style if possible. Drinks are provided. The event is strictly alcohol free - making it an event for the whole family.
But this event isn't only just about the night of the ball, it's also in the preparation of regency era ballroom attire. We will be running weekly sewing bees, where we help people of all ages make costumes for the night. Getting to know people and having a lot of fun community time. Each session at DBC will run Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (1:30-5:30pm) every week until the event. Not everyone has to be a lord or lady, maybe a butler, housekeeper, soldier, footman, magistrate is more your style, it's up to you.
If dancing isn't for you then perhaps you can assist with the preparation and running of the evening, all help would be greatly appreciated. Please get in touch with Nakeisha or Katrina for more information.
Our Next DBC Mission meeting will be on 11 September at 10 am if anyone is interested in coming along. held at Judi Lawrence’s home. Contact Judi or anyone on the mission team: Glenys Knopp, Barbara Clinton, Beryl Hatton, Colleen Davidson & Denise Reynold.
Do you understand DBC’s Faith Promise Giving? We choose in faith to contribute a certain amount of our giving to missions each week, additional to what we choose to give to support the work at DBC. We believe that God will enable us to fulfill our promise. No-one chases you for this amount, it’s a promise between you and God.
The mission team meets to pray for the missionaries we support and also to discern the amounts to be given to each mission/missionary. You are welcome to join them, or even just ask them any questions you like about this process.
In December 1872 a group of believers met together for the first time as the Greendale Baptist Church. On the weekend of Saturday 3rd December and Sunday 4th December 2022, we thank God for 150 years of continuous witness and fellowship.
Some of us have grown up in the church, others have arrived from elsewhere and settled, some have rested for a time in the fellowship and moved on. All are part of the Greendale/Malvern/Darfield Baptist family. We have worshipped together, debated together, cried together, laughed together. Some of us have fallen in love! God has met us as we have gathered over the years. It's time to celebrate.
